Colchester bagged a huge win in the fight for survival in League Two by beating Newport 2-1.

Newport took the lead through Offrande Zanzala three minutes before half-time despite Colchester’s dominance. The number ten picked the ball up on the edge of the penalty area and dinked it over Owen Goodman who was off his line.

Goals from Joe Taylor and Chay Cooper secured the win for the U's, a hard-fought victory against the Ammies.

Colchester United were looking to bounce back from a tough defeat at Wrexham at home to Salford on Friday night.

Colchester United have been eliminated from the Bristol Street Motors Trophy by West Ham's U21s at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester were looking to book their place in the last 16 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy but were up against a young West Ham side who have been prolific this season.

And the Hammers were at it from the off, taking the lead in the opening minutes courtesy of Daniel Chesters, who nodded home from close range.

A first-half strike from Bradley Ihoinvien successfully paved the way for the U's into the knockout stages of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

Matty Etherington made five changes to the side that lost at Stockport on Saturday, with Tom Smith, Fiacre Kelleher, Tom Hopper, Chay Cooper and Brad Ihionvien all coming into the starting XI.

One point was needed to guarantee our place in the next round of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy ahead of Tottenham Under-21s and Cambridge.

Colchester United have been beaten 5-0 by Spurs U21s in the opening EFL Trophy tie

After the 1-1 draw with Mansfield at the weekend, Ben Garner made eleven changes for Colchester as they took on Tottenham’s U21s in the EFL Trophy.

The visitors were able to dominate the ball and found a breakthrough after half hour. Jamie Donley remained composed in the box and slotted past Tom Smith to give Spurs the lead.

Two goals in the second half condemned the U's to defeat at their first home game of the season as AFC Wimbledon took the points.

Colchester were able to finally kick-off their home campaign on Tuesday night as they welcomed AFC Wimbledon to the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester United returned home to the Jobserve Community Stadium on Saturday as they took on Tranmere Rovers in a crucial clash in League Two.

The U’s held league leaders Leyton Orient to a 2-2 draw on the road last weekend, with Ben Garner’s men scoring twice late on to pick up a valuable point in the A12 derby.

An excellent performance away from home meant that the manager decided to stick with the same starting XI that featured against the O’s, with plenty of firepower on the bench if need

A first-half goal from Kyle Wootton handed the U's a home defeat against Stockport County.

Ben Garner took to the touchline for the first time since being appointed as the new Colchester Head Coach and the former Charlton boss immediately put his stamp on the squad with a number of changes.

Alex Newby and Luke Chambers returned to the starting XI with Will Greenidge and Arthur Read dropping out.

Tom Eastman's ninety-seventh minute header bagged the U's a first three points of the season at home to Bradford City.

Colchester started brightly with Frank Nouble heading off the bar in the early exchanges, but Bradford had chances of their own with Scott Banks going close on more than one occasion.

The first half was evenly contested, a trend that continued in the second half, with both sides going close through Alex Newby and Harry Chapman.

Colchester United were forced to settle for a point in the first home game of the season, as Carlisle United frustrated Wayne Brown's side in a 1-1 draw.

Colchester struck early through Noah Chilvers; the midfielder’s low strike settled in the back of the net after just nineteen minutes had been played.
