Colchester bagged a huge win in the fight for survival in League Two by beating Newport 2-1.

Colchester were looking to book their place in the last 16 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy but were up against a young West Ham side who have been prolific this season.

A first-half strike from Bradley Ihoinvien successfully paved the way for the U's into the knockout stages of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

Matty Etherington made five changes to the side that lost at Stockport on Saturday, with Tom Smith, Fiacre Kelleher, Tom Hopper, Chay Cooper and Brad Ihionvien all coming into the starting XI.

Colchester United have been beaten 5-0 by Spurs U21s in the opening EFL Trophy tie

After the 1-1 draw with Mansfield at the weekend, Ben Garner made eleven changes for Colchester as they took on Tottenham’s U21s in the EFL Trophy.

The visitors were able to dominate the ball and found a breakthrough after half hour. Jamie Donley remained composed in the box and slotted past Tom Smith to give Spurs the lead.

Colchester United returned home to the Jobserve Community Stadium on Saturday as they took on Tranmere Rovers in a crucial clash in League Two.

The U’s held league leaders Leyton Orient to a 2-2 draw on the road last weekend, with Ben Garner’s men scoring twice late on to pick up a valuable point in the A12 derby.

Colchester United breezed past Doncaster Rovers with a superb 3-0 win courtesy of Alex Newby, Samson Tovide and Luke Hannant.

Tom Eastman's ninety-seventh minute header bagged the U's a first three points of the season at home to Bradford City.

Colchester started brightly with Frank Nouble heading off the bar in the early exchanges, but Bradford had chances of their own with Scott Banks going close on more than one occasion.

Colchester United were forced to settle for a point in the first home game of the season, as Carlisle United frustrated Wayne Brown's side in a 1-1 draw.

Colchester struck early through Noah Chilvers; the midfielder’s low strike settled in the back of the net after just nineteen minutes had been played.
